Former Rangers manager Gio Van Bronkhorst is looking to sign a player that tormented him during his Ibrox tenure, Jota. The 24-year-old is on the fringes of the first team squad and after French duo Diaby and Aouar signed recently.

According to a report from Turkish outlet Al-Ain, Besiktas have made an official approach for the winger as he looks set to depart Al Ittihad.

GVB wants to strengthen his side and sees Jota as being an attractive option giveb that he is on the periphery under Laurent Blanc.

During his two years in Glasgow, Jota 83 appearances for Celtic as they won five trophies. In those games, he scored 28 goals and assisted on 26 occasions, which resulted in links to a number of clubs. Celtic fans are eager to see what happens to Jota and a deal would surely be something that would be celebrated, given how much the club meant to Jota.

Celtic fans are clamouring for Jota to return to Paradise, a move that the player would probably welcome. Although, it doesn’t appear that there is anything concrete in suggestions that Celtic would be able to afford the lucrative financial package required to bring him back.

This is Van Bronkhorst’s first job since receiving the sack at Ibrox. The Dutchman probably looks back at his sacking with bitterness given how Michael Beale attended while he was under pressure and publicly applied for the job. Hopefully he isn’t able to bring the Portuguese attack in and a return to Celtic can be facilitated.
