Give Brendan the funds and he will build something special…
Tonight’s impressive 4-1 win over Chelsea may have only be a friendly, but along with the 4-0 win over DC United and 4-3 win over Man City we have shown that we have clearly improved as a team during our tour of the United States.
The passing, the pressing, and the overall speed and accuracy of our game is a remarkable improvement on last season. We look more compact as a side, and the sharpness that we so often lacked last season is more evident this time around.
Of course it’s only pre season and the serious stuff has yet to begin, but the signs are good. The only negative is that we still haven’t improved our squad with the quality we require.
Brendan like the supporters is crying out for quality additions, and if he gets his wish, he can build something special at this football club.
The players have clearly bought into his philosophy after taking a while to adapt from Ange Postecoglou’s approach to the game.
Brendan has stamped his authority on the side and has instilled confidence in the players alongside their ability and it’s getting results, even with his limited squad depth.
Just think what he could do with proven quality to bolster his options. It’s time to give him the funds to help him prosper.
Just an Ordinary Bhoy
Rodgers is already in the process of doing so imo?
We aren’t a club like an EPL team, especially Chelsea, who are trying to buy a team?
We are a team that has to be created and developed, which will be the case for ourselves?
Take our midfield 3 tonight, who were outstanding, we will not be in a position to buy the same quality on show?
So we still have to develop players to be able to deliver to such standards?
That’s the challenges that awaits midfield players for ourselves currently?
We won’t be spending above 10M on a potential 25M replacement for Oreily, for instance?
Yet we will be looking for the same quality instantly?
Some way to go before we can expect to be spending similar amounts of money on replacements, to what we receive for them?
Yet we were able to show that a well organised team, where players knowing there roles, with a great deal of footballing intelligence and right decision making, can be a great match against a money made team?
The gap in quality between our 1st and 2nd choice player’s in most positions, was ridiculously high for way too long imo?
Rodgers is currently reducing that gap at present?
Will take time before it’s totally complete throughout the whole squad in every position?
But the process involved is well under way?
Been a fantastic pre season, and Rodgers knows exactly the type of players he will be looking for to improve even further imo?
Players will know, where they stand in terms of actually doing enough on the tour, to have earned a squad place for the coming season?
Rodgers still has possibly a few tough decisions to be making all the same, but part of his job to be carrying out?
We were a very inconsistent team for long periods last season, especially earlier on?
Don’t see that going to be such an issue next season, especially if we have got good backup options available to ourselves, with stronger competition for the starting positions?
Will allow rotation to be applied and keeping the squad fresher over the course of the season?
To do a pre season with far more positives on show than negatives, is a great sign for things to come for the season ahead imo?
And especially with the 25man squad not finished by any means yet?
Can only see exciting times ahead next season imo?
Great results and performances but we may have shot ourselves in the foot as our out of touch board will now think they don’t have to spend much money on transfers. The only thing they seem to be interested in is having a massive amount of money in the bank for some unknown reason.
There are many reasons for wanting to have money in the bank and hardly any of them are unknown.
To think that those in charge are so one- dimensional that they would spend nothing after we won three pre-season games is primary school stuff.
It’s clear that the club are chasing targets and it’s also clear that we are hard negotiators. We appear to have sorted the goalkeeper department, look likely to be bringing Bernardo and Idah back to the club and chasing other targets. In addition, we need to maintain a pathway to the first team for academy players.
This “spend money on players” noise is farcical when it’s so removed from reality and the intricacies of operating in the market that Celtic are confined to.
We make mistakes for sure, but we also make great signings that add short and long term value, yet ever year folk are droning on about spending money on players they’ve never heard of or are of dubious character or skill to be playing for Celtic in the SPFL.
We are doing ok, but there is always room for improvement and, for sure, support Brendan in the market but the constant droning on about the board when the club is in such good shape is really tiresome.
Thanks, how much did Chelsea players cost compared with Celtic last night?
It’s people like you who allow the board to act in the manner they do. John mcginn, stephen fletcher and Ivan toney to name only three players the board fucked up. All of the players above cost us titles by not signing the mandatory they are hardly Messi and Ronaldo are they. You talk of markets we shop in but this is nonsense. It’s the board who have a salary cap in place that hasn’t changed in about 20 years. It’s no wonder we can’t keep any of our talents.im not for a minute suggesting going out and buying 25m pound players but we should be aming higher than two or three 6m players every other year. We win 3m for a 38 game season in scotland yet we win 2.5m for 1 win in the cl. Yet every year we go into it weaker than the team we had the year before because we have sold our best players, pocket the money for the cl and tell the fans it’s for the yearswedont make the cl. What a fucking ridiculous mindset. Honestly don’t get where you are coming from
I couldn’t agree more with your article, after watching Celtic for over 50 years I sense we are on the cusp of something special. Very impressed from what I’ve seen. Rodgers clearly working some magic with existing players who now seem very comfortable with system, shape etc. If we bring in some additional quality and strengthen areas we will be a real handful. Our passing out from the back has improved significantly ( I’m no longer watching them through cracks in my hands!) even under real pressure we passed time and again and suddenly broke away. The goals v Man City all came that way (and dare I say the much maligned Scales was involved……TWICE🤣) As other comments have mentioned, our passing is crisp and accurate allowing us to break quickly and our pace up front will cause teams real problems. Give Brendan the resources he needs to make progress in Europe
