The Green Brigade once upon a time raised a banner aimed at those in charge of the purse strings. It read ‘ don’t sleep at wheel’

It was of course aimed at majority shareholder Dermot Desmond and then chief executive Peter Lawwell.

You could say that warning is needed currently with an underwhelming transfer window and a host of first team regulars on the treatment table.

Major investment is needed in the squad in terms of first team ready players. The supporters know it, the manager knows it, and you can bet your life the hierarchy know it.

The ball is in their court to back the manager with the funds we badly need. There can be no excuses. We took in £30 million in transfer fees and we’ve got guaranteed champions league group stage football.

We are in a healthy financial position and can afford to push forward. Whether the board decide to do so is another matter.

They need to heed that previous warning, don’t fall asleep at the wheel. If they do they will steer off the road with drastic consequences.

It’s up to them to keep focused and drive off into the horizon with the competition not even visible in the distance. They can do it, it’s in their hands. Let’s hope they stay awake and give Brendan the required tools to do the job. Anything less is unacceptable.

Just an Ordinary Bhoy
