CELTIC travelled to Station Park yesterday to face Forfar Farmington in the Scottish Building Society Scottish Women’s Premier League One.

Celtic had the better of the early exchanges, but neither side seemed able to get the ball down and build the play. The first real opportunity , with around 20 minutes played, fell to Heather Richards who was denied giving Celtic the lead by the post. However a late flag went up so it would’t have counted.

Celtic began to press the Farmington and the Forfar team were fortunate to get to the interval without going behind. Josephine Giard had a great chance to open the scoring for the visitors when she was put through one on one with the keeper, but her effort came back off the keeper’s foot and although Richards followed through, her shot too was saved by the impressive Forfar goalie. Celtic kept the move going from the clearance and Claire Adams had a go from distance, with the keeper touching it over for a Celtic corner.

Unbelievably Forfar almost snatched the lead just before the interval, however Celtic were saved by a great block from McCulloch just as it looked like the home side has stolen a lead.

Mindful of that close call, Celtic picked up the pace at the start of the second-half, with substitute Ruesha Littlejohn making an immediate impact on proceedings. And on 61 minutes they got the reward that their play deserved when Adams opened the scoring with a long range shot. This time the Forfar keeper has no answer.

And things went from bad to worse for her when Kelly Clark connected with a excellent corner from Richards on 77 minutes to double Celtic’s lead and continue the splendid unbeaten start to the season.

Celtic Academy player Nicole Cairney made her debut for Celtic when she replaced Richards with 9 minutes remaining.

Littlejohn almost added a third near the end, bringing out another excellent save from the Forfar keeper. But Celtic were happy enough when the final whistle went with the score Forfar Farmington 0 Celtic 2.
