GIANNIS CHROIANOPOULOS, the Athens based journalist, has claimed that Celtic’s Nicky Hammond was the man behind Vasilis Barkas’ move to Glasgow. The Celtic Head of Football Operations is said to have made the scouting report on Barkas himself as well as making inquiries, even before COVID-19.
Hammond is an ex-goalkeeper himself and will know what it goes to go to the top of the game. Hopefully in Barkas he sees a talent that will perform for Celtic in ten hunt for 10IAR.
Barkas signs on a four year deal, believed to be worth £1m per year after Celtic paid around £4.5m for the player from AEK Athens. Barkas was in goals when Celtic were dumped out of the Champions League in 2018 by the Greek side and joins becoming the new number one, taking on from Fraser Forster – who decided against making a permanent return.
Celtic are going for a record breaking 10th successive title in a row, surpassing the record set by Jock Stein in 1974. Lennon was the man that started Celtic’s run to 9IAR and he is currently making adjustments to his team in order to secure the holy grail of 10IAR.
