Ange Postecoglou has expressed his delight at Leigh Griffiths agreeing to a one year extension with Celtic. The 30-year-old had been anxiously waiting on news of a new deal while his teammates returned to Lennoxtown under the new boss. However, the club announced today that a deal had been done and Griffiths will be remaining at the club for at least another twelve months.

Speaking to the Celtic website, Postecoglou said that he and Griffiths had spoken about what the manager expects from the player and the standards of the club, something that Griffiths has arguably failed to

“I am really pleased to keep Leigh with us for another season at least. I have had very positive conversations with Leigh and he clearly understands my expectations and more importantly the club’s.

“Leigh has already proven himself as one of the top strikers in Scotland and I look forward to working with him so that we can bring success to Celtic Football Club.”

Griffiths has scored 123 goals for the club since joining from Wolves in January 2014. The player has provided some moments of magic but he owes a lot to the manager and the support for sticking by him despite fitness concerns in the last few years. Hopefully he will be able to capture his best form for the new manager.

If Postecoglou can get the ex-Hibs striker to his best, he has a talented attacker at his disposal but the question is whether we get the Griffiths of 2015-16 or the bit-part player of last season.
