Mention Sweden and Celtic in the same sentence and you automatically think of Henrik Larsson, and understandably so. Yet we have had many super Swedes who have graced the hoops, especially in defence.
Johan Mjallby despite being signed as a central midfielder made his name at Celtic as a no nonsense centre back and had a successful six year spell with the club. Mikael Lustig is another. Who can forget the eccentric Mikael? A superb full back who was known for madcap antics, but more importantly he was a serial winner. Lustig won 16 major honours while at the club.
More recently there has been Carl Starfelt. Perhaps not the most popular, but still a huge success, no matter what his critics might say. Carl in his two seasons won five honours, including the treble last season. Sadly it looks like Carl is now on the move with a switch to La liga side Celta Vigo all but done.

Celtic have been linked with another Swede by the name of Gustav Lagerbielke. According to reports Celtic are close to signing the IF Elfsborg centre back to replace the departing Carl Starfelt. A fee of around £3 million has apparently been bid and the Swedish international looks odds on to sign for the Hoops. Gustav is highly rated in Sweden and his signing would be considered a major capture for the club.
Hopefully if he signs he can go on to be as big a hit as his other fellow countrymen who pulled on the Hoops, led of course by the greatest of them all, The King of Kings.
