Gustaf Lagerbielke to join FC Twente, season loan deal agreed with Celtic

Gustaf Lagerbielke looks like he’s heading to Dutch side FC Twente, ironically enough as a replacement centre-back Robin Propper who left the Eredivisie side to join theRangers.

It appeared to be a two-way battle between Heerenveen and Lecce for the signature of the out-of-favour Celtic defender who joined the club last summer from Swedish side IF Elfsborg, in a £3m deal. Lagerbielke signed a five year contract but failed to make a positive enough impression on Brendan Rodgers who has told the player that he is not in his plans for this season.

Lagerbielke made just ten appearances for Celtic, he played in the 1-0 win at Ibrox at the start of last season, got sent off in the Champions League in Rotterdam against Dutch Champions and then got his own revenge on Feyenoord when he scored a last minute winner against them in the final group stages match at the end of last season.

Last week at his media conference Callum McGregor spoke about how important getting that win is to the current group of Celtic players as it showed them what winning a match in the Champions League actually looks like.

FC Twente’s late move seems to have been successful with Celtic accepting a season long loan offer from the Dutch side, as per an update from Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph, see below.

  1. Good move! It took far too long though. Dead wood!
Shame it’s only a loan. Should never have signed him.
