Match Preview – Champions of Sweden v Champions of Scotland…

After two late goals from our Irish Ghirls saw Celtic FC Women victorious against Djurgarden, the Ghirls are back in action this afternoon as they take on top Swedish side Hammarby at the Tyresövallen Stadium…

This is the battle of Champions as Hammarby won their league last season, as indeed did Celtic. It acts as the second and final match of Celtic’s pre-season tour in Sweden before they kick off their defence of the SWPL title on Saturday afternoon at Celtic Park.

Tickets are available to purchase for that Saturday game at Paradise, so if you can, get down and cheer on the Scottish champions against Dundee United.

Elena Sadiku spoke to Celtic TV after the match and touched on this clash against her former side. She said: “It will be a different test but a big challenge for us.”

Team News

Some of our new signings took to the pitch against Djurgarden, with Signe Carstens, Shannon McGregor and Bruna Lourenço all being named in the starting 11. Saoirse Noonan, of course, made her first impact in the Hoops as well as she came on in the second half and eventually scored the winning goal in the dying embers.

I’d say that we’re likely to see the new signings who didn’t appear in that game in this one. Elena will probably want to give them a runout to see how they fare ahead of opening day.

Natalie Ross will not feature as she has not travelled with the squad. She spoke to The Celtic Star at the SWPL launch event yesterday afternoon.

Kit Loferski wasn’t on the teamsheet for the game against Djurgarden but is in Sweden and was pictured on Celtic’s social media pages today.

Kick-off Time

The game kicks off at 5pm Celtic Park Time as the Scottish Champions go head-to-head with the Champions of Sweden.

Where to Watch

We will face Elena’s old team at the Tyresö Vallen Stadium. The match broadcast, and is available via PPV from the host side. Travelling Celtic supporters can watch the game for free in person.

Score Prediction

1 – 1 is my score prediction. This will be a brilliant match to get more minutes in the tank and hopefully, some more of our new signings will be starting before attention turns to Flag Day at Celtic Park on Saturday lunchtime.
