Hana Kerner signs one year contract extension

Celtic FC Women have confirmed that Hana Kerner has signed a new contract that will see her stay in the Hoops until 2025.

After joining from Pitea IF Women in January 2023, the defender made 11 league appearances for the Celts and was looking like a great addition. Sadly, she picked up an ACL injury that saw her out for the entirety of the last campaign but she worked hard on her recovery throughout the 23/24 season.

The American is now part of Celtic’s pre-season training and Elena Sadiku is giving her the chance to cement her place in the squad by keeping her in the Hoops for the upcoming campaign.

Hana and the club have followed the same path as happened with Lucy Ashworth Clifford who also suffered an ACL injury that kept her out for a year. Both players have been given an extra year on their contracts and incidentally both players are top quality.

Lucy came back towards the end of last season and player her part in Celtic winning the SWPL1 title for the first time ever.

Hana suffered her injury in that memorable game against Glasgow City the season before last

Elena was impressed with Lucy and we reckon that the same thing will happen with Hana this season, she’s a top performer.

In other news, Celtic Women have been drawn away to Montrose in the second round of the Sky Sports Cup. The tie is set to be played on the 29 September.

And before that, we have Champions League football to look forward to as the Ghirls take on Finland’s KuPS Kuopio in the first round of the competition on 4 September. FC Gintra will host the games in Lithuania.
