Joe Ledley turns 34 years old today and it’s hard to believe that he departed Celtic Park almost seven years ago today.
The former Wales International joined Parkhead after a six year spell with boyhood club Cardiff City between 2004 and 2010. Signing on a free transfer in July 2010, Ledley represents one of the club’s best bits of business in the modern era.
The midfielder would go on to play for Celtic over 150 times, scoring 30 goals in the process. Ledley enjoyed several highs such as playing in the famous 2-1 victory over Barcelona in November 2012, scoring the winning goal against Rangers in December 2011, winning three consecutive league titles (which kickstarted this current nine in a row) and lifting a Scottish Cup.
Sadly, Ledley was almost made redundant at Paradise in 2014 and was duly sold to Crystal Palace for a fee believed to be in the region of £800k – £1m.
After three years in the Premier League, he joined Derby County, then made an appearance for Charlton Athletic before enjoying a short stint with Newcastle Jets in 2020.
Ledley is currently without a club, but hasn’t officially hung up his boots. He recently appeared on Soccer AM where he talked up Celtic Park as the greatest atmosphere in the world. You can read all about that by clicking HERE.
