Hearts v Celtic: Nick Walsh named as referee for Sunday’s clash

Nick Walsh will referee Celtic’s game against Hearts this weekend. Brendan Rodgers’ side have won five domestically on the bounce and will be keen to continue their fine away run at hostile venues by ringing up a victory at Tynecastle.

Walsh, a category A referee, will be assisted by Daniel McFarlane as well as Calum Spence. Colin Steven is operating as Fourth Official.

Meanwhile, over at Clydesdale House, Andrew Dallas is on VAR duty with Graeme Leslie assisting.

Walsh was the referee for the controversial game against Hearts last season when VAR was first introduced, Celtic were denied a stonewall penalty and two were given by VAR. It is fair to say, however, that Walsh is one of Scotland’s better referees.

Rangers face Hibs on Saturday before the Scottish Champions take the capital the following day. With a lead of seven points, Celtic have been excellent since Rodgers returned in the summer to replace Ange Postecoglou.

Rodgers has been to Pittodrie, Ibrox, Livingston and Fir Park and recorded maximum points. Tynecastle is always a difficult venue and, notwithstanding Rodgers’ heaviest defeat, the Irishman has an impressive record having won a league at Hearts’ home.
