Chris Sutton has read Alexandro Bernabei the riot act after he was caught out once again with disciplinary action, following his poor timekeeping. The left-back had reputedly overslept and missed his alarm last week and as a consequence, was late to an important pre-match meeting ahead of the Flag Day opener against Ross County at Celtic Park.
The Argentine has had less than impressive time with left-field issues during his time in Scotland, and the last thing he needed was to upset the new boss who had promised to give everyone a new, clean slate after the departure of Ange Postecoglou. However, the little defender has started off on the wrong foot with new man Rodgers, who taught him a lesson by excluding him from the matchday squad.
Celtic legend, Sutton has insisted that the Irishman was well within his rights to dish out such a punishment for Alexandro and his sub-par punctuality on Sky Sports before the Aberdeen game yesterday lunchtime. The big Englishman said of his reprimand: “Blimey you’ve had such a good start this morning Gordon then you bring up another negative about Celtic, the Treble winners,” as he joked with host Gordon Duncan.
“They won last week and you’re going with the Bernabei story?,” he said as reported by Scottish Sun. “You’re quite right to bring it up and Brendan left Bernabei out because there’s no excuse for being late for a team meeting. He’s a bit of an idiot really because it’s a new manager, a clean slate and he hasn’t done himself any good.”
The 22-year-old was back amongst the substitutes for our trip to the Granite City yesterday afternoon, but that initial clash with Rodgers will have him in no doubts as to the standard of manager he is working under and also the standards which he expects from all of his playing staff and backroom team.
