Hibs v Celtic – Time for Brendan to banish those Easter Road blues

Strangely enough Easter Road hasn’t been our favourite ground these past few years. Our last decent performance in Leith was a thumping 4-0 win under Ange Postecoglou back in December 2022.

Our last three league games at Easter Road have seen us lose 4-2 in an end of season dead rubber, scrape out a dull 0-0 draw, and of course a last gasp Adam Idah penalty gave us a vital 2-1 win back in February.

That win was indeed Brendan’s first ever win at Leith in his two terms at the club! Tomorrow we have got to replicate that win in February, although this time with a little more style.

A win is the most importantly thing, as we will probably start the game a point behind the Rangers who play an injury hit Motherwell at Hampden this afternoon.

Hibs have started the season poorly after being thumped 3-0 by St Mirren at Love Street on the opening day of the season, but that counts for nothing come tomorrow lunchtime.

We have got to show the same kind of style and flair we showed against Kilmarnock at Celtic Park. Do that and I’m confident we can leave Easter Road with a decent result and performance for a pleasant change.

  1. The massive difference already on show this season is the amount of actual goal scoring opportunities that we are creating at present?
Was seriously lacking for large chunks of last season, especially in the earlier stages of Rodgers return?
Made our performances at a very high inconsistent basis also?
Put that mainly down to the struggles that players were having, to make the adjustments that Rodgers was looking for within the team imo?
Took far longer to resolve than I expected to get ourselves into the team that Rodgers is looking for imo?
No such issues currently on show, especially when players far more use to the instructions of Rodgers, and a far greater confidence from the players in return imo?
With a far higher degree of understanding within our group of players currently on show, I still fail to see how any team in Scottish football can even get close to stopping ourselves at present imo?
Even more so, while teams like hibs remains in transition stages themselves?
Like nearly every game that we are involved within at SPFL level, will be decided by just how clinical we are in front of goal, as would still be expecting ourselves to dominant the possession stats?
Still wouldn’t be overly confident within the opportunity’s that we can still offer up, but they seem to be reducing also, with our stronger possession game in operation at present?
Yet possession doesn’t win matches either?
It’s the creativeness and understanding with the extra quality been produced, that is already giving ourselves far more goal scoring opportunities available to ourselves at present?
Can’t see any changes in the approach taken tomorrow either?
So just how much we will win by will be determined by just how clinical we are in front of goal?
Still think our usual 4 goals will still be kept intact at least imo?

  2. Hatate makes a huge difference to the team, in terms of creativity, and I feel him missing was a big part of last season panning out the way it did.
