SCOTT BROWN has been one for some hilarious moments over the years but the battling midfielder has always maintained his game face during matches, scrapping in every minute of the game and marshalling the rest of his team onto victory. Brown has had some notable rivals in the centre of the park, players that have challenged him and often left with their tails between their legs.
One of those players was Graeme Shinnie, the former Aberdeen captain. Speaking to Si Ferry on Open Goal, the midfielder admitted that Brown brilliantly gave him a stinging putdown during a match which Celtic dominated.
“They pumped us 3-0 at Pittodrie and they battered us. The football they were playing was unreal.
“He came up behind me and whispered in my ear ‘do you want a touch of the ball wee man?’
“He plays the same way as I sort of play, we were bouncing off each other.”
Brown and Shinnie have had some clashes over the years, the League Cup Final in 2018 was a notable one with a lot of bite in it. This is due to a late tackle by Shinnie on Brown in May 2018 as McInnes’ side won at Trophy Day in Paradise.
Whilst Shinnie opted for a move to the English Championship, Brown has been continuing to dominate midfields around Scotland as Celtic continue their stranglehold over Scottish football. Brown will be hoping to lead Celtic to an unprecedented 10IAR, surpassing Jock Stein’s 9IAR record from 1974.
