WE CAN ALWAYS DREAM but there is absolutely ‘no chance’ of the Main Stand at Celtic Park being re-developed with a top tier being added and the capacity increased to 80,000.

This clever video emerged on social media last night and for the second time in a few weeks speculation started about the idea actually coming together.

The logic is clear. Celtic – despite a global pandemic and the season starting Behind Closed Doors, still managed to sell 50,000 season tickets by the extended deadline day and are now busy offering the few thousand remaining tickets to the 17,000 supporters who all paid a tenner to be on the Celtic Season Ticket Waiting List.

By adding a top tier above the re-developed Main Stand, the capacity would increase and Celtic could accommodate all the supporters on that waiting list – and substantially increase the match day revenues.

However nice a thought it is – and can you imagine the noise on a Champions League night or at a Glasgow Derby – but it is only going to remain a dream for the foreseeable.

We checked out the suggestion when it was first floated a few weeks ago and our Celtic source was emphatic that it was NOT going to happen anytime soon. “No chance of that happening, especially not now,” was the official word from Celtic.
