How Celtic manager humiliated Ibrox board and embarrassed Scottish hacks

Brendan’s public humiliation of theRangers Board has shamed them into taking action…

Brendan Rodgers told theRangers a few home truths last Friday, and it really has hit home with the Ibrox side as they have decided to take the long overdue and necessary action to correct their stadia issues to allow away fans to once again attend Glasgow Derby matches at their rundown stadium.

The SMSM have been praising the Ibrox side for acting quickly to finish their Copland Road construction work, even though the season started three weeks ago! But only one man is responsible for their ‘quick’ response to the building issues at the Broomloan Road stand and that is the Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.

Brendan was correct when he said the reason for the away fan lock out on derby day was exclusively ‘a Rangers problem’ and the Ibrox club have taken note as they at long last, first thing on Monday morning, applied for the necessary planning permissions to undergo the safety work required in their stadium, that was agreed earlier this year between both clubs and the SPFL.

The media and theRangers supporters will try to spin the away day lock out as Celtic’s fault now, but we all know that not to be true.

Only one club started the ticket stand off, only one club were incompetent in their dealings with their stadium issues, and it wasn’t Celtic in either instance. As Brendan said at his media conference a week ago today, it’s all exclusively ‘a Rangers problem’.

Brendan comments were widely reported by a shocked MSM who sat their aghast at the position they’d been put in by the Celtic manager. Celtic TV were recording the conference for use on the club’s YouTube channel and there were also members of the Celtic fan media in the room. So the hacks had no choice but to report what Rodgers said and he gave them little wiggle room to attempt to put a spin on things.

Brendan forced the MSM to do their job properly for once and he shamed theRangers Board into immediate action. That’s the honest truth. And don’t for a minute think that this was Brendan going off on a tangent at his media conference. He was delivering a Celtic message and he delivered perfectly.

When it’s usually the case that it’s theRangers to blame, the hacks like to resort to the ‘they’re both as bad as each other, six of one half a dozen of the other’ approach. They’ve been doing that ever since the away allocations were reduced by theRangers after one skelping too many by Celtic at Ibrox.

Last Friday Brendan had this to say to the shocked hacks when asked about the Celtic decision to deny Rangers fans access to Celtic Park for next Sunday’s Glasgow Derby.

“Clearly disappointed for both sets of supporters. It’s been a long time now since we had a decent allocation for both clubs.  Listen, it’s not complicated. I believe there was an agreement in place to carry out work to ensure that it was in place for both sets of supporters to come. Celtic has been working on that for a number of months, I know that, with the investment that went into it to ensure that everything was right for this fixture.

“You can only do that if the agreement is upheld by both. So, we can’t guarantee that and sadly we aren’t able to open the gates for the away support for this one. I think the statement said it was for the next two games, so, fingers crossed that after that we will see in the final couple of games that we can get supporters back in.

“I think the board has made a really good decision in terms of it’s the club’s job to protect its support. And if they don’t have the guarantee that come the second fixture, then I think it’s only logical that you wouldn’t reciprocate. Celtic have played their part in what they were asked to do. Nothing of this was Celtic’s issue when you go back to when all of this started. It’s nothing to do with Celtic.

“Celtic is getting dragged into this here as a ‘Celtic vs Rangers’ thing. It’s not a Celtic thing. This is a Rangers thing. So, when Celtic is asked to make the stadium safe, we plow money into that and we do the works, which started months ago. As I said, both parties haven’t agreed upon it. So, it’s not complicated. It hasn’t been done (at Ibrox).

“‘Good faith’ or whatever way you want to put it, there was still an agreement for both, and it’s not been done. It’s not good faith if we allow Rangers supporters in and then we get to January and our own supporters can’t get in. The agreement hasn’t been upheld, so Celtic rightly has to defend their supporters and club. Sadly, like I said, Rangers supporters have to miss out on this game and Celtic in the return game.

“Let’s hope after that, we can find a way to get the supporters in.”

  1. WRONG!
    The away-day lockouts are 100% Celtic’s fault!
We kept pumping them at their own ground, in front of their own fans, (well, the ones that were still there after half time that is), and racked up humiliation after humiliation in the process!
Meanwhile, those thugs that were left, threw broken bottles, coins, lighters and so many things that could injure people, but received too much protection in the process.
(I often wonder how this same animalistic behaviour would have been handled had it been our fans).
    So YES!
    This was ALL Celtic’s fault!
    Hail Hail!

As much as I admire Brendan for what he said it should have come from the board. It is their job, via a PR person, to convey decisions made by the club. It was nor BR’s decision to stop Rangers fans from getting into CP. Why will they not put their head above the parapet and call out Rangers and their agenda?
