Expecting more from Yang in the coming months…

Hyunjun Yang hasn’t exactly had the most prolific starts to his Celtic career. The South Korean winger has the talent, that’s not in question, it’s his ability to do it consistently that’s been the problem so far in his time at Celtic.

Yang was highly rated when he signed for £2 million from Gangwon FC last summer, and you can see why. He’s got great technical ability on the ball, but perhaps sometimes overdoes it, as well as not producing enough end product.

That said he’s still young at only 21 and has a lot of learning still to do. That will naturally come with time, and he showed in flashes what he’s capable of after appearing as a second half substitute in the 2-0 win over St Mirren on Sunday.

He’s a very direct exciting player and that’s something we are lacking at the moment on the flanks, so hopefully he gets further chances in the run in to showcase just that. Yang was also, along with club team mate Oh, selected for the South Korean squad for the Asian cup last month.

He indeed made a few appearances from the bench and won a few admirers for his performances albeit it was only for a short period of time. That sort of exposure could do wonders for his confidence in his bid to break into the Celtic side.

The very fact Yang, just like OH was selected by Jurgen Klinsmann tells you they are players with real ability and great potential. I’d take the opinion of someone like the German legend over any social media doubters every day of the week.
