According to PA Sport Media reporter, Ronnie Esplin, Neil Lennon has said that he doesn’t understand the charges against Celtic striker Albian Ajeti.
Ajeti, who scored his first goal since September against Kilmarnock on Tuesday, was cited for an alleged dive in that same match. This act of simulation, for which he stands accused, led to Celtic being awarded a penalty kick. Odsonne Edouard subsequently converted to put the Hoops two goals ahead.
A panel of former referees, and the SFA compliance officer, reviewed the incident and hit Ajeti with a two match ban. However, footage appears to show clear contact as the goalkeeper’s hand strikes Ajeti’s ankle, meaning that the player should not have been charged with any wrongdoing.
Celtic have since announced their intention to challenge the verdict and, when broached on the issue, Neil Lennon said: “I don’t understand why these charges have been brought up against Albian, we don’t agree with it at all so we will be appealing it.”
Celtic face Motherwell at Paradise tomorrow afternoon and, with appeals set to take place on 8 February, Ajeti looks likely to be available for selection.
