“I Had Absolutely No Idea How Important It Was,” Brattbakk On Goal That Stopped The Ten

It’s well known that Harald Brattbakk’s winning goal that stopped the ten was one of the most joyous moments in modern Celtic history.

The Norwegian came on as a second half substitute for Simon Donnelly and wrote his place in Celtic folklore when he converted Jackie McNamara’s cross to seal victory over St Johnstone and hand Celtic their first title in a decade.

Brattbakk, who is now a pilot, spoke of the goal after the match was shown on BBC and Celtic TV last weekend. “I had absolutely no idea how important that was,” he told PLZ Soccer.

“Even though I was told from the day I came that this year was about being able to stop Rangers from getting ten in a row. The importance of stopping them is much more important than winning nine in a row. I still can’t believe how important it was. But obviously being able to talk about one game and one season 22 years later tells you how big it was. I was back in Glasgow a couple of times this year and so many people came up to me and talked about this.”
