Celtic Chairman Ian Bankier laid a wreath in memory of the fans who tragically lost their lives in the Ibrox Disaster 50 years ago shortly before kick-off this afternoon.
The show of respect from Celtic was in sharp contrast to the hateful “welcome” that the Celtic players received as they arrived at Ibrox amid a barrage of sectarian abuse. Perhaps those Rangers fans would have been better placed showing their own respects for the 66 fans who went to a game 50 years ago today and never returned.
This image from a previous new year fixture at Ibrox shows Billy McNeill and John Greig leading they tribute to the 66. Today was not the time for the behaviour that this Rangers fans indulged in today. Shame on them.
