If Celtic starts new season weaker than last year then Board will be held accountable

If we start the season weaker than last, then the board have to held accountable…

So far it looks like Kasper Schmeichel is the only bit of business being done by Brendan Rodgers as we get ready for a pre-season trip to the United States.

Schmeichel will take over from Joe Hart, but it still leaves us much weaker than last season with Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah still a bit away from agreeing a permanent deal, and of course the departure of Oh who joined Belgian side Genk yesterday.

Also it’s only a matter of time before Matt O’Riley departs, so it’s not looking very promising with the start of the new season only three weeks away.

We weren’t exactly firing in all cylinders last term, and despite finishing the season with a domestic double it was clear to see that our squad badly needed an injection of quality. That’s what makes it all the more frustrating that we haven’t done any business in the transfer market.

Not only have we had the time to look for the necessary quality, we’ve had the luxury of knowing that we’ve banked a healthy sum after securing automatic qualification to the new look Champions League. Not to mention season ticket sales and a reported record turnover. We’ve got the means and we have to use these resources to back the manager in his aim to bring in the required quality needed.

Sure we haven’t got a head of recruitment, but I’m sure Brendan has his own list of targets. The fact that we haven’t even brought any in is slightly concerning with the season opener against Kilmarnock fast approaching.

If we start the new season weaker than last season then the board have to be held accountable. It’s nothing but sheer negligence from a Board who like to watch closely what’s happening across the city and this summer’s fiasco at Ibrox will likely lead to a reduction in the spending ambitions at our own club.

In their eyes the title is looking a sure thing as theRangers implode and they can ride out a few thrashings in the Champions League as a price worth paying for the huge sums that will be earned as a consequence.

There only problem is that this time the Celtic support can see it coming and won’t buy Brendan as the fall guy this time around. Back the manager and do it now!

  1. Lubo's Boots on

Just do enough to beat the rivals across the City. Small town parochial ambition from a board and a man who seems more interested in his own status within the board of European club Chairmen than he is of the status of his own team. We’ve all been talking about the required transfer activity since the final whistle of the cup, and patience is wearing somewhat thin. Can you imagine the scenario where an EPL club with some European ambition offers Rodgers the keys and the cash and the promise of bringing in transfer targets that he wants? How could he not be tempted?
If the Board aren’t interested in investing in the manager and the team after this level of success and financial turnover, then they are not fit for purpose – pure and simple.

  4. I will back the board if they spend what we can afford. Their only concern it seems is the share price. Too many Celtic fans are board apologists, we are a football club 1st and foremost! Sort the team out Lawwell and Co!

  5. Bit early to be starting to pressing the panic button, when there is still 7/8 weeks left of this transfer window to go still?
A lot can happen in the footballing world in only 1 week let alone what will happen over the next 7/8 weeks, especially within our club?
Using the start of the season in 3 weeks, remains nothing more than our annual blame the board, for anything that is not to our liking?
And at the moment it’s nothing more than a time factor?
Yet, we can be caught up in the waiting game, weather we like it or not, with potential players and clubs with players under contract, all playing the same waiting game at the the same time also?
Part of the process involved at this time of year, yet we have so many acting as if this process is nothing more, than ourselves acting like kids with money in a sweet shop?
Wish it was that simple, and could be, if we remained in shopping in lesser markets, but then we raise the quality issues yet again?
So a thankless job for anyone who is caught up in the whole process, yet it’s easy to look in and moan like hell regarding it?
Will wait until the window actually shuts before passing judgement, simple reason is that forming a 25man squad for CL has to remain our priority during this window imo?
Forming a decent starting 11 is still not good enough within a squad game these days?
And yet this is how we have operated over the past few CL campaign, where injuries impacted ourselves so hugely?
The reason for that was the quality factor between 1st and 2nd choice player’s was way to high, so short in enough quality within our backup options, to cover injuries and able to make an impact from the bench when required?
Yet the board get blamed and the manager gets overlooked, who is responsible in creating the 25man squad in the first place?
A joint operation needs to be put in place, which remains very questionable in how the operation was put into action over the last few summers?
That doesn’t mean that Rodgers is going to get everyone of his 1st choice targets, and that every incoming player is going to be a huge instant success either?
We will still be starting the season with the best part of 11 full international players starting for ourselves, along with maybe a few on our bench also?
That’s where we are at present, and even grows when Paulo and idah eventually sign along with kasper?
Yet maybe not much stronger than the team that won the league by 8 points, despite playing nowhere near the levels that many of our players are capable of producing for large chunks of last season also?
So by all means really set about the board and Rodgers if they can’t get a 25man squad together for ourselves with the CL in mind.
But still needs 7/8 weeks to run yet?
But maybe we have forgotten when the likes of Jota and CCV did arrive at our door?

    • Why does every statement you write end in a question, over and over and over again?

  6. Just how do we hold board to account? Waiting list is full and closed so can’t withhold ST money, banners and shouting at board hasn’t worked so far so what can we do. I’m not buying CL tickets this season unless we sign well but other fans will buy my seats, genuinely have no idea what we can do to hold board to account
