Scottish Football’s very own Harry Potter – Roger Mitchell the former SPL Chief Executive – has this morning lashed out at Celtic Fans for celebrating the Scottish Cup Final win on Sunday over Hearts which completed a World Record Quadruple Treble.
Mitchell reckons Celtic Fans had no business celebrating the cup win because had the two Hearts players scored their penalties then Hearts would have won the cup and the Celtic narrative would have been completely different.
Remarkably Mitchell appears not to understand anything about what makes football so attractive to supporters, Remarkable in that at one time he was running the Scottish Premier League.
Celtic’s remarkable run to a World Record Quadruple Treble began with defeat in a penalty shoot-out defeat at Hampden in the Scottish Cup semi final in April 2016. Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me but I’m pretty sure that theRangers fans celebrated that success – although they were rioting by the time they lost the Final to Hibs the following month.
And Celtic fans regarded that as a major disappointment and the Board did too – reaching out to Brendan Rodgers, the former Liverpool manager, to become the new Celtic manager and start the process that led to the World Record Quadruple Treble being completed on Sunday.
So by winning a penalty shoot-out Celtic didn’t just win the Scottish Cup, we’d already done that 39 times previously, but we completed a World Record Quadruple Treble and that more than anything else is why the Celtic support took a few days to revel in our club’s remarkable achievement – a World Record Quadruple Treble.
It’s pretty amazing that Scottish football’s Harry Potter doesn’t get that, especially as he regards himself as a Celtic supporter. Niall J has already written a piece on The Celtic Star this morning saying that it’s time to get back to business and that is the mood among all the Celtic Fans who will be watching the game against Ross County this evening.
But please Roger, do us a favour, and think before you jump onto Twitter to have a kick at the Celtic support. Here’s what he has been saying:
“You know what gets me, as I watch the celtic fan arrogance increase again. And you also get players making Quadruple Treble gestures on twitter. Ex managers defending Lennie. It’s this: what was the narrative from Celtic fans post game if those 2 young hearts players has scored?
“It would have been hell on earth. “weak as p*ss; can’t control a game, a final, vs a lower league team.”. So before posting your little memes of self congratulation, reflect how something as random as a penalty kick can so easily change your mindset. That’s not a good look folks!
“And the media the same. They’ve basically gone along with this celebration. Are they scared of Peter? Where are the articles calling how dreadful Celtic were in the Celtic half. How fragile and weak.”
One of the early responses: “Penalty shoot outs are not random, you really are becoming a bit of a mug Rog. Some of your insights are useful, I thought at one time maybe you could be a replacement for Liewell but the more you post the more I’m like nah, muggy mcmuggins has his own agenda. Stick to pods.”
