Sead Hakšabanović has reacted to his frustrations at the lack of game-time he has been given under Brendan Rodgers with a ‘want-away’ message posted on his official Instagram account.
The Montenegro international attacker stated: “If they don’t see your value maybe you’re not at the right place”. Hakšabanović is just one year into a five year contract since at the end of August 2022. He came off the bench yesterday with a half an hour plus stoppage time to play but couldn’t make an impact in a dreadfully lame Celtic performance.
Sead Hakšabanović was of course signed by Ange Postecoglou and a change of manager always seems to have winners and losers within a squad the new boss inherits. Brendan Rodgers of course inherited a treble winning squad and a half dozen new signings have all come in – all selected by the scouting operation at the club headed by Mark Lawwell.
Meanwhile players like Jota, Carl Starfelt and Aaron Mooy – all significant contributors to last season’s success -have left the club. Add to that a significant injury crisis and a support that is increasingly unhappy at the passive style that has replaced the dynamic attacking approach of the past two years under the Australian, and there’s an autumn of discontent brewing in Paradise.
Hakšabanović, it should be noted, has never established himself as a regular starter under either Postecoglou or Rodgers and when he has earned a start he has invariably failed to deliver. His best performances have usually come from the bench and that appears to be where Brendan Rodgers sees him at the moment, which matches the stance of his predecessor.
Hakšabanović may well have looked at the departure of Jota as an opportunity only to see Daizen Maeda play on the left-wing despite some underwhelming performances from the Japan international, who yesterday was particularly poor against St Johnstone.
The Celtic Star reported earlier in the week that there were rumours that Hakšabanović wants away and now we hear it from the horse’s mouth. This has echoes of August 2020 about it has it not? The lesson from that is move on any want-aways or pay a very heavy price.
Strong leadership is required from Brendan Rodgers on this one and Hakšabanović should be out the door this week.

Haksabanovic is a legend in his own lunch hour. A player who has flattered to deceive on countless occasions and never been a first pick for any team he’s played for. Not the best time for him to be bitching about being hard done to

What absolute drivel you’re writing. How can the guy establish himself without having game time ?
He’s the only player to nearly score yesterday while O’Riley missed 4 chances and was allowed to stay on.
Clearly you’ve missed those moments. Perhaps you were at the toilet.
I believe any player that wants to leave should go but to write that after the start to the season we’ve had just before a trip to ibrox proves to us we’re not a united dressing room.
