Swedish side IFK Goteborg is pursuing a loan deal for Celtic goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas. The Greek Internationalist arrived in a deal worth £5m back in the summer of 2020 but has failed to impress with Joe Hart being recruited from Tottenham Hotspur last summer and installed as No.1.

As reported by The Daily Record, the Gothenburg side are keen on signing the goalkeeper but the financials still need to be addressed. Celtic will want a chunk of Barkas’ wage covered as well as a loan fee as they try and recoup the outlays on what has been a poor signing.

Barkas has made just two appearances this season but finds himself down the pecking order at Celtic. The arrival of Hart as well as Scott Bain being given a new deal suggests that the prospect of breaking back into the first team is slim.

Barkas arrived in order to fill the vacuum left by Fraser Forster and Craig Gordon but he has not managed this. He will need to move on to find his confidence and put this nightmare behind him.
