Celtic’s recent signing, Hyunjun Yang, has replied to comments comparing him to the former Celtic winger Jota.
Jota undoubtedly played a huge role in Celtic’s Treble winning season earlier this year. It came as both a shock and a loss to hear about the Portuguese winger’s exit from Paradise as he heads east to join the Saudi club, Al Ittihad. However, it’s worth noting that the healthy price tag of £25 million certainly made the move a bit easier for a lot of Celtic fans.
With Jota no longer out on the wing, eyes have turned to the new recruits to see who will try and step into Jota’s boots, with Yang’s name coming into the mix.
Yang excitedly joined the Hoops earlier this summer and was quick to sing the club’s praises, saying that he has been a fan for years. However, when the Jota comparison was made, Yang wasn’t completely convinced that he was the only player to replace Jota but made it clear that he hopes to have a similar relationship with the fans.
As reported by the Glasgow Times, Yang said…
“I know that Jota was a great player and very popular at Celtic. I’m not 100 per cent sure that I’m the only person to fill that gap.
“We have other great players at Celtic and together we can do it in each match. Up to now, I’ve only been a substitute for Celtic.
“But if I get the chance to play from the start, which is totally different, I’ll try to show some good moves that hopefully the fans will like.”
Today might just be the chance that Yang is looking for to get a start and show the fans what he can do!
