Celtic completed the signing of Moritz Jenz this week and the big German defender could not have been more happy. After a successful spell in Switzerland with Lausanne-Sport, the centre-back transferred to France with FC Lorient and by his own admission is didn’t turn out quite as well as he’d hoped for.

With a clean slate and a place he can call home in Glasgow for at least the year, Jenz seems to be a good fit for the club – judging by his character at least. An extremely humble and down to earth guy, the ex-Fulham academy star made his Celtic Park bow today with fellow newbie Aaron Mooy. Both managed to get in some vital minutes before the start of the new season and both acquitted themselves well.

Moritz came on and replaced Stephen Welsh in the central defensive position alongside Christopher Jullien. Bar doing anything spectacular, he looked composed and very mobile with a tidy range of passing to boot. Be even made a decisive challenge at one point in the box to thwart a potential Norwich goal.

Now he has taken to social media to give his thanks to the supporters for their part in today’s friendly match, with the delight at making his home debut obvious from the caption. He said:

“Incredible feeling to play for the first time at home, in Paradise 🍀
Thank you for such a warm welcome ❤️ #hailhail #celticfc #COYBIG”

It seems that Moritz Jenz and Celtic may just be a match made in heaven…
