Some worrying news came to light last night when it came through that Alistair Johnston was taken off early during Canada’s 2-1 victory over the USA…
The right back who’s been in superb from these past few months was substituted in the 25th minute, but it’s still to be confirmed the reason behind his early withdrawal.
AJ walked off and didn’t look in any discomfort so that’s a positive sign, and it might just be precautionary, but all the same there must be a niggling injury problem present, and we can only hope it’s a minor one.
AJ is an important part of our structure under Brendan and with the Champions league just round the corner, it’s a big concern.
We need all our best players available if we want to make a dent in Europe, and AJ is one of our most valuable assets.
Tony Ralston is a more than capable and dependable replacement for AJ, but without sounding disrespectful to Tony, he’s not on the same level ability wise as AJ who has really improved as a player under Brendan Rodgers.
Let’s hope it’s nothing serious and it was nothing more than a precautionary measure.
Here are the highlights from Canada’s away win against the United States…
