Former Rangers captain, Barry Ferguson has come out and stated categorically that Celtic were robbed of a penalty kick at the weekend in Ayrshire agasint Kilmarnock. Derek McInnes’ side were leading 1-0 when Hoops forward, Sead Hakšabanović, was brought down in the box towards the final whistle.

It was an unbelievable by referee Alan Muir and his officials both on-field and operating VAR. The Montenegrin attacker was clearly fouled as contact between the Killie player’s foot and Haksabanovic’s boot is visible in replays. Another catastrophic day for Scottish football and its governing body.

Although Celtic admittedly didn’t do enough to earn a victory, that is definitely not the same as being denied an opportunity to get back into the game from the penalty spot by incomprehensible refereeing calls. Muir has previous for this sort of thing with the Bhoys and it does nothing to remove the lingering doubts we all have about certain officials in this country.

Meanwhile, Ferguson was on the Go Radio Football Show and revealed it was a stonewaller and that he would have been fizzing if he was playing and Muir and co. did that to him and his teammates. He said: “It’s a penalty. If I’m playing, I would be absolutely raging. End of, it’s a penalty. He’s clipped him and he’s went down. I full expected when I was watching the game, I was like ‘right, that’s it going into extra-time.”

The ex-Rangers man also reckons Greg Taylor’s aggressor, Daniel Armstong, could and should have been sent off for his reckless assault on the Celtic full-back. He added: “I’ll be honest, if you actually watch it and slow it down, it’s nasty. He catches him with the elbow. So if they look back on that, that could have been certainly a yellow card but possibly a red.”
