The bad news just keeps coming for us it seems of late. With more injured players than you can shake a stick at, the next few weeks promise to be challenging for sure. Our defensive capacity has been greatly diminished with Cameron Carter-Vickers, Stephen Welsh and now Maik Nawrocki on the treatment table for now.
We do have Gustaf Lagerbielke but the Swede is just through the door and will need to find his feet quickly. With that being said, Liam Scales should be more than capable of doing a job in the short to medium-term all things considered. He played consistently for Aberdeen lasy year and was very good by all accounts – which is why he is wanted back by Barry Robson.
Scales is at an age now where he needs to be playing regular and becoming the experienced man in the defensive line. There should be no reason why he can’t slot in beside Gustaf Lagerbielke and be that calming head and help the new recruit through what will be an extremely testing few weeks. With Ibrox on the horizon, everyone is concerned about the outcome of that one.
Scales was excellent against them last year and even managed to score a cracker against the Govan side at Pittodrie as well. If we can’t be confident that Scales and Lagerbielke can get a result then our problems run far deeper than just injured players. He’s been over the course before Scales, so this shouldn’t be a major culture shock for him.
Time to step up.
