Brendan Rodgers has given an update on the two injuries suffered by Celtic in today’s Scottish Premiership match against Aberdeen at Pittodrie…
Celtic travelled up to Aberdeen to take on the Dons in the first away match of the new season. A firey first half from Aberdeen put pressure on Celtic’s back four, which wasn’t to be helped by Cameron Carter-Vickers coming off at halftime due to injury. CCV looked slightly off the pace for the majority of the first half, so it wasn’t a surprise to see him make way for Stephen Welsh at the interval.
Reo Hatate also came on at halftime after an underwhelming 45 minutes from David Turnbull. Hatate made an instant impact on the game after his introduction at the beginning of the second half. However, 20 minutes after coming on, Hatate went to the ground holding his calf, which caused him to go off to receive treatment.
In a post-match interview with Brendan Rodgers, the Celtic manager gave an update on the two Celtic injuries as well as his thoughts on the match. Brendan said: “We got through it well, it’s a tough place to come up here and Barry has toughened them up but the boys stood up to it and did well for us. The attitude of the players is top class to be fair, every game here is a big game and there’s lots to work on of course but it’s still very early on in the season.
“(CCV) felt his hamstring a little, we’re hopeful he’ll be okay but we have to look into that. I wanted Reo on at half-time, I like his tenacity and felt we needed him on the ball but unfortunately, he felt a problem with his calf – again it’s something we need to look at in the next few days.
“Odin came in and looked good, Yang did really well for the third goal and it wasn’t easy for Welshy to come in there but he did well too. I expect the replacement for Carl to be finalised this coming week.”
Celtic dug deep to secure all three points and put out a reasonably strong performance. However, at times Celtic looked fragile at the back, so hopefully, Brendan will strengthen the squad over the next few weeks and bring a few more signings in, so we can get back into our stride.
