Jackie McNamara was suddenly rushed to hospital twelve days ago after he collapsed at home in York and the footballing community united to show their support to the former Celtic captain. McNamara was said to be fighting in intensive care following surgery.

Now, Jackie’s daughter Erin has given the positive update that fans, players and pundits around the country have been hoping for by confirming that Jackie Mac was on the road to recovery.

Taking to Jackie’s Twitter account, his daughter writes “Thank you for the continued support for my dad, the past week has been so overwhelming for us as a family.

“He is making progress but still has a long road to recovery. We are so thankful for all the care he’s received and remain positive.”

McNamara played for Celtic from 1995 until 2005 when he left the club to join Wolves. In his time at Celtic, he won 4 league titles, 3 Scottish Cups and 2 league cups in a decorated career that lasted twenty years.
