James Forrest is being tipped for an immediate Scotland recall after the winger returned to Celtic action at the weekend. Steve Clarke’s side requires a win over Moldova to seal their progression as the second fixture is against table-topping Denmark, who are yet to drop a point in qualification.
According to The Scotsman, Clarke is keen to include Forrest when he names his side ahead of the game on November 12th and 15th. The former Killie boss will name his side this afternoon and Forrest is likely to be named in the 23-man squad.
Clarke was probably less than impressed with Ryan Fraser’s exploits versus the Faroe Islands last month and may see Forrest’s versatility and his previous in a Scotland shirt as a massive advantage despite his lack of game time. Three points would seal Scotland’s second-place finish and catapult them into the Play-Offs.
Forrest’s inclusion can only be a boost for Celtic as Ange Postecoglou can rest assured that he will be training competitively with a view to getting on the pitch against Moldova as Scotland look to secure their progression to the next round of qualifiers.
Forrest returned on Saturday for the draw against Livi and could’ve actually scored after a Mikey Johnston cut back found him around the penalty box. Unfortunately, match sharpness meant he failed to properly connect and the ball ended up in Giakoumakis’ path, who couldn’t direct the ball goalwards.
“Forrest tipped for International return”
Why? he’s done nothing, can’t stay fit, can’t cross a ball past 1st defender.
