Charlie Tully joined Celtic from Belfast Celtic on 28 June 1948 and over the following eleven years made 319 appearances in the Hoops, scoring 47 goals.

During those years, Charlie won winner’s medals for the League Championship in 1954, the Scottish Cup in 1951 and 1954 plus the League Cup in 1957 and 1958.
Charlie was also in the team which won the St Mungo Cup in 1951 but missed out on a place in the Coronation Cup-winning side of 1953.

On this day in 1959, Charlie Tully was given a free transfer by Celtic.

In the early days of Celtic, quite a few players from Benburb juniors had made their way to Celtic Park, one of whom – James Kyle – was born on this day in 1870.

‘Fish’ as he usually known, was only at Parkhead for two years between 1890 and 1892 and only made 2 appearances, the first against Cowlairs on May 9th 1891 and then an Old Firm encounter on 7th May 1892 before moving on.
