When Billy McNeill was appointed manager of Celtic for the second time in May 1987, he realised that the side needed strengthening and made some quick decisions.
On 1 July of that year, Andy Walker arrived from Motherwell, the striker having had three successful seasons at Fir Park.
A day later, he was joined by Billy Stark from Aberdeen, the midfielder having proved at Pittodrie that he could both make goals and score them.
And on 8 July, Chris Morris was brought in from Sheffield Wednesday, a full-back comfortable on the ball and always ready to break forward.
On this day in 1987, all three were in the Celtic side which travelled down to Cappielow to face Morton in the opening league match of the season and came away with a good 4-0 victory, Mark McGhee getting on the score sheet, as also did new signings Stark and Walker.
