ROD STEWART claimed earlier this week that ‘no one would want the Celtic job’ after the results lead to protests by supporters on Sunday. Celtic have had two wins in ten games but Stewart and Commons believe that Lennon is the only man that can lead the club through this tough spell – which may or may not be true but they also said because no other manager would want the job, an astonishing claim from two supporters of the club with a platform.
However, a former Celtic manager – John Barnes – has rubbished this claim saying that the Celtic job is massively appealing to any manager. As reported by the Scottish Sun, Barnes reckons that there would be a queue to apply for the managerial hot seat in Glasgow’s East End.
“But I do think any manager with experience, and who believes in his own ability, would take on the Celtic job in a heartbeat.
“It’s a team with great players and great potential, and there is a massive fanbase.”
Barnes lost his job when Inverness beat his Celtic side at Parkhead and was subsequently sacked following supporter protests but speaks more sense than two guys who have been closely associated with the club for some time. The Liverpool legend rubbishes the claim of the ageing rocker and loud mouth pundit, who are committed to supporting Neil Lennon – which is fine – but claiming no one would want the job totally devalues the club.
Celtic are a global brand and footballing institution, few have the privilege to play for the club and even fewer to manage the club. You would expect as much from Commons who enjoys a shock factor quote.
