Former Celtic striker John Hartson has said that both teams will be chasing a Treble going into Sunday’s League Cup Final at Hampden. Both teams are in fine form going into the game with Celtic boasting the better goal record. Although, Hartson reckons that despite Celtic’s nine-point lead (and significant goal difference), Michael Beale will believe that the league can still be won.
Speaking to Go Radio, Hartson insisted that both have their sights fixed on all the silverware available in Scotland.
“There’s a lot riding on the game and the League Cup goes down on your C.V. I’m proud to have won two and it’s very important for the supporters.
“Both clubs are still in the running to lift the treble. Whoever can win (on Sunday) it will give them great confidence . Rangers have a lot still to do in the league to catch Celtic, they understand that.
“But nobody is handed a league trophy at the end of February so it’s game by game. Anything can happen.
“We’ve seen Celtic drop points away to St Mirren this season and the bottom line is you got to keep winning.
“You need to take it three points at a time – that’s how you win the league.”
Celtic are away to Hearts in the Scottish Cup at the beginning of next month but Rangers are at home to Raith Rovers in the Quarter Finals. Ange Postecoglou has refused to be drawn into speculation regarding the Treble. The Australian refuses to comment, insisting that the Scottish Champions must take each game as it comes.
Sunday’s Final will be an excellent spectacle but Celtic will be hopeful that they can get retain the trophy that was won in December 2021 by beating Hibernian at Hampden.
