Josip Juranovic scores first goal for new side after Celtic exit

Former Celtic favourite Josip Juranovic scored his first goal for new side Union Berlin as they beat Ajax 3-1 in the second leg of their Europa League knockout tie. The 27-year-old got the better of former Rangers defender Calvin Bassey, who conceded a penalty in the game.

Juranovic scored the second of the night for the Berlin side as his left-footed effort squirmed under the goalkeeper and found the net. The result means that the Dutch Champions are out of Europe while the trophy-chasing Bundesliga side go into the draw for the Last 16.

Union are joint top of the Bundesliga but as Celtic face Rangers for the first silverware of the Scottish season, Jurnanovic will be preparing for the game against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

The Croatian Internationalist joined Celtic from Legia Warsaw in the summer of 2021 for just £2.5m but leaves after making 52 appearances, scoring twice and winning two trophies.

It appears that the Bundesliga will be pleased with the acquisition, which was worth around £9m. The high-flying Union will be keen to continue their impressive form as they pose an unlikely assault on the German top flight with a view to breaking Bayern Munich’s monopoly on the game.
