Jota would love Celtic return but major hurdle emerges

Former Celtic star Jota would love to return to the Scottish Champions, according to a report.

The winger left the club last summer for Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia with a £25m deal reported. However, he has been limited to just 25 appearances and the Saudis are keen to move the player on.

A report from Record Sport states that the player’s agent met would be very interested in making the return to Glasgow but that there are fears that his salary would prove to be an insurmountable obstacle to any deal.

The report continues to say that there has been no contact from Brendan Rodgers’ side with the player but, given his stance, this could change. The club are looking to add some fire power to their ranks for next season with Sead Haksabanovic already having been moved on. Mikey Johnston is wanted for a return to West Brom while Yang could be someone that the club look to loan out.

The superstar from Portugal thrived during two seasons at Celtic, winning five trophies under Ange Postecoglou. The move hasn’t worked out for the player and he will be keen to get his career back on track after a year in the footballing wilderness.

  1. Slow news day? Hows he going to take a massive step down in money? That’s assuming he comes back on our pay structure’s top wage? People forget how little cash their is in Scottish leagues. To sign a £12m player u need to have avoided paying taxes for 23-11 years. I wish he did though, good kid, excellent player HH
