Celtic are close to completing a deal to sign Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna. The Scottish Champions are looking to make the winger their first signing of the January window as Brendan Rodgers aims to improve the quality of the first team.
There had been fears that a deal is being prolonged due to penny-pinching tactics by the Celtic board; however, journalist Mark Hendry has clarified that the delay is down to Rapid wanting to have a player in the door to replace Kuhn before allowing him to go.
🚨It’s always been about Rapid finding a replacement for Kuhn. #Celtic know that, it’s a waiting game but the feeling on both sides – as is clear in report – is that player likely to be in Glasgow next week.
“Haggling” is no issue as when Rapid give go ahead, it’ll be done. https://t.co/qbdVjnl91q— Mark Hendry (@mhendry92) January 13, 2024
The player will, however, likely arrive in Glasgow next week as Celtic look to improve ahead of the second half of the season. The club are expected to be in the market for a left back and a centre forward as Brendan eyes improved depth ahead of the return after the winter break.
Given the amount of wide options that Celtic have, e.g. Mikey Johnston and Yang, the club could incentivise the deal by offering a player on loan for the second half of the season.
