Christopher Jullien has expressed his desire to one day pull on the blue jersey of France. Since completing his £7 million pound move to Glasgow, the defender has been a rock at the heart of the Celtic defence and he is keen to capitalise on the performances and earn a place in Didier Deschamps team.
Speaking as Celtic confirmed a new 3 year deal with Eden Mill, as reported in The Scottish Sun, Jullien admitted that he wasn’t ready to give up on an International recall just yet. The 26-year-old says that International breaks are quiet due to the amount of Celtic players on international duty and he would rather spend that time playing with France.
“I was a little bit used to this before this year. After playing for the France young team stopped, I knew the international break was a time to focus on myself and the things I need to work on.
“It’s true it’s really quiet in Lennoxtown with not many players around, and I’m happy there are so many international players here. I have some days off right now, but I would love to cut those days off to become an international player. It’s my dream to play for France.”
Jullien represented France at U20 level and was in a successful team with players that went on to win the World Cup in 2018 – such as Paul Pogba; however having got a taste for it, he wants to get back into the fold.
“When you touch it a little bit when you are young, and you see others you have played with going on to represent France, it’s unbelievable.
“I know I am far from it just now because there are so many good players. I’m just trying to keep the momentum going.
“It was not easy to come into a team that wins everything. It’s really difficult but I’m just trying to do my best, then you never know what will happen.”
Jullien will be using the break at Lennoxtown to rest up ahead of a gruelling six weeks which includes two Europa league matches, tough away games and a Betfred Cup final before culminating in the Glasgow Derby before Hogmanay.
