Kris Boyd’s Celtic Dig – “Absolute amateur hour stuff”, Genuinely cringed”

Kris Boyd last night made a fool of himself live on Sky Sports News by having a pathetic pop at Celtic for not qualifying for the knockout stages of the Europa League after a 3-2 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena yesterday evening.

When the presenter in the studio passed the spotlight over to him to let the viewers know what was happening at Ibrox as theRangers took on Sparta Prague, he just had to use the moment as an opportunity to make it all about him and explain how the Celtic fans have been wondering where he is.

Kris, let me tell you this. No one cares where you have been, we have just been enjoying tuning into Scottish football coverage without having to listen to the garbage that comes flowing out of your mouth. Anyway this is what he had to say on Sky Sports News:

“Just on that, I believe, I’ve heard there have been a few Celtic fans wondering where I’ve been the last few days.

“They won’t need to worry, I’ll definitely be here speaking about (the)Rangers in the knockout stages of the Europa League

And, as we know after tonight, that’s not for everyone!”

The striker finished his address with a sarcastic thumbs up to the camera in a moment that instantly made me cringe in the way you do when watching David Brent in The Office trying to portray himself as ‘one of the lads’.

We are often exasperated by fans down south who are so wrapped up in their EPL bubble that they don’t realise the standard of football in Scotland is much higher than they think, as they continue to pan it even though most of them have never actually watched a game here.

To be honest it’s not surprising many football fans from the outside looking in view our game with such derision when you have a halfwit like Kris Boyd as the lead pundit covering our games. How pathetic the game in Scotland must look to these people when an idiot like Boyd is given a platform to talk up our teams, yet wastes it by having a dig at Celtic fans after their team had just went toe to toe with a very good German team and only narrowly lost due to two late goals.

Sitting there grinning like a Cheshire cat, trying to make the whole thing about him in his battle to win brownie points from the fans of the new club that plays out of Ibrox, while doing nothing to promote the game in Scotland just makes our whole product look pathetic.

It is absolute amateur hour stuff. I genuinely cringed when I saw it, and not because I’m a Celtic fan. Where else would one of the so called ‘top pundits’ in any other league get plaudits for acting in such a childish way? Not plaudits from others in the Sky Sports studio by the way who almost seemed embarrassed, no the plaudits were from the Scottish media today who gushed about how Boyd ‘trolled’ Celtic fans and how his outbursts of emotions have become ‘cant miss TV’.

If the standard of Scottish football was as bad as the media who cover it then we really would deserve to be ridiculed by outsiders.

Hailing from Cushendall in the North of Ireland my formative years were spent watching Celtic during our barren spell through the 90's which meant I have appreciated our recent trophy-laden spell even more. Favourite matches home and away I've attended has to be beating Man Utd 1-0 at Celtic Park and being with my 2 brothers watching us beat Lazio 2-1 in Rome. Best away day experience? Has to be Munich with friends from Coatbridge...what a few days!

  1. I cancelled my sky subscription and emailed them 4 times already this week about this desperate slug of a man. It’s not even remotely banter , you’d have to have an iota of like ability and the guy is just clearly a fud! it’s just pure hatred now

  2. Not for the fist time and as long as they give him a platform it wont be the last time that i e mail sky sports about this imposter. Can you imagine the uproar if one of their english presenters behaved in the same way towards any english team getting beat in europe ?.

  3. Reality is they have qualified and once again we have failed miserably, we were lucky not to concede 6 or 7 goals against Bayer, its about time we stopped dreaming and faced reality, the spl is years behind most of Europe.
