KT returning to Celtic rumours resurface, why and when it could actually happen

KT rumours resurfacing…so what’s happening? Let’s have a look, shall we?

You will know by now that Brendan Rodgers was pictured with Kieran Tierney last night at a Celtic FC Foundation charity event in London, and although it was just a case of two old ‘colleagues’ catching up, it didn’t stop the rumour mill going into full steam.

Continuous rumours about a Celtic return for Tierney

Kieran Tierney, as you know, was rumoured to be a target during the close season, but that was quickly put to bed after he suffered a nasty injury at the Euro 2024 in Germany.

KT is now on the mend thankfully, although he’s still a few months away from full fitness, but that hasn’t stopped Celtic supporters from suggesting a deal may be done to bring him back as early as January or even next summer.

As for me, I think it’s just wishful thinking. KT is a great player and one I admire greatly, but we have Greg Taylor and Alex Valle at this moment in time and any move for the Arsenal man in the next window is a non-starter.

When it’s most likely to happen

It’s perhaps more likely to happen in the summer when Arsenal will be keen to move the player on and KT’s had another season’s worth of that huge Premier League salary paid into his bank account. Arsenal all the while will be reducing their own transfer fee expectations and with Celtic having broken the £10m transfer fee barrier this summer, the Gunners could look at that figure as a one that would work for them.

Would it work for Celtic would the club look at a lower price given the huge risks given Tierney’s troubling injury record in recent years. And Kieran would also have to ‘sacrifice’ the remaining huge wages at Arsenal in the remaining season on his contract which expires in summer 2026.

Transfermarkt’s KT Current Valuation

Transfermarkt.co.uk currently value Kieran Teirney at £10m.

Celtic could look at a loan deal in January to ‘test the water’ with KT’s fitness. You would expect that Arsenal would be interested in this as it’s hard to see him getting game-time with them this season, barring an injury crisis.

One last point, KT will have presumably been given permission by Arsenal to attend last night’s Celtic FC Foundation event in London.

  1. The longer the Taylor contract situation remains unresolved, the more the rumour mill of a return of KT will increase?
Since the return of Rodgers, a good number of players have got themselves improved contracts?
Especially acting fairly quickly regarding scales?
Yet nothing for Taylor still, would make you wonder as to why?
With that situation still ongoing and still no resolution at present in sight, would personally make me think that there could well be something in the making, regarding a return of KT?
Always felt that signing Valle was only a stopgap solution in the LB position imo?
Yet, we still haven’t got any form of a longer term solution in place for ourselves still, in the LB position at present?
Could Rodgers potentially be looking at a possible KT and Anderson partnership in the LB position for next season?
Which in turn would help improve our homegrown quota requirements also?
Before then a possible return of KT in a loan deal in January, could be in the making, especially to see if such an investment within KT, could actually work out even with the injury issues regarding KT?
Still find it surprising that the Taylor contract situation hasn’t been resolved yet, even moreso with how quite the situation still remains?
Maybe a return of KT might not be as far fetched as some may think it could be imo?

  2. Wish everyone would stop linking a return to paradise for Mr Celtic Keiran teirney , any glimpse of him with anyone associated with Celtic gets the rumour mill started and then people start getting all worked up about him. This is the guy who was dyed in the wool ,bled green and was going to be our next captain, and what did he do ? He left for his real love MONEY. He’s a former player and that’s it , if he wants to come back he can pay to get in like the rest of us.
