Anthony Joseph from Sky Sports has posted an update on Italian side Lecce’s ongoing interest in signing Celtic’s Swedish defender Gustaf Lagerbielke.

Lecce came very close to securing Lagerbielke on a loan deal in the closing days of the January transfer window but that loan move collapsed due to another injury set-back to Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The 24 year-old former Elfsborg defender, voted Sweden’s defender of the year in his final season at the club, cost Celtic £3m and as it seems almost certain that he will not be in Brendan Rodgers’ plans for the new season, the player has indicated his willingness to move to get game-time.

Whether Celtic will be interested in a loan move or would prefer a permanent transfer remains to be seen. Any loan deal, as was the case in January, will involve the Italian side paying all of Lagerbielke’s wages.

Anthony Joseph’s update reads as follows:

‘Lecce have made another approach for Celtic defender Gustaf Lagerbielke. The Serie A club want a loan deal with an option to buy. In January, Lagerbielke’s loan move to Lecce stalled, just days before deadline day, after Cameron Carter-Vickers picked up an injury.’
