Henrik Larsson’s move to Southend has collapsed. The Celtic legend was due to take over the League One strugglers with Johan Mjallby and Tommy Johnson in his back room team.

The King of Kings was expected to be announced this week; however, a last minute glitch has meant that the deal has been abandoned. The ex-Celtic trio were However, Johnson, who was due to be the Head of Recruitment due to his experience in the division accepted an alternative offer meaning the deal collapsed shortly before they were due to sign contracts.

In a statement, the club announced that the deal for the former Celtic trio had been lost.

“As a consequence of Tommy Johnson withdrawing, all discussions with Henrik Larsson and Johan Mjallby have, unfortunately, come to an end too.

“The club had identified other individuals in the run up to agreeing terms with Henrik and his proposed colleagues.

“Those parties remain on our radar and we will resurrect those discussions with every intention of appointing a permanent manager as soon as practically possible.”

As one of the greatest players to grace the turf at Celtic Park, Larsson is fondly remembered and hopefully he gets the break in management that he has been looking for – especially considering the pedigree that he has as a winner.
