FC Utrecht’s owner, Frans van Seumeren, has claimed that Celtic launched a last minute bid for winger Gyrano Kerk only for the Dutch club to reject.

Due to the injuries to Mikey Johnston and Moi Elyounoussi as well as Scott Sinclair and Lewis Morgan leaving in the transfer window, Celtic looked light in the wide positions and attempted to sign Christian Atsu from Newcastle. However, as midnight tolled no new signings appeared at Celtic Park with the scarf above their head.

Kerk has eight goals and six assist in twenty appearances this season and was supposedly a target of PSV; however, van Seumeren said that the only club to bid for the 24-year-old.

“Lots of clubs asked about Kerk, but they never turned into actual offers.

“The only club who made a concrete bid was Celtic.

“I’m surprised we did not receive more interest to be honest because he is a player who is constantly a threat and involved in most of our goals.”

Patryk Klimala and Ismalia Soro were the only arrivals at Celtic Park after Neil Lennon recanted on his promise of bringing experience to the club.
