Lazio reportedly discussed a new manager ahead of their game with Celtic in the UEFA Champions League. The Italian manager Maurizio Sarri has come under criticism for the Serie A side’s poor start to the season. Former Marseille manager Igor Tudor was reportedly offered via intermediaries with Lazio posting just seven points on the board after as many games.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Tudor was offered to Lazio as a replacement for the ex-Chelsea and Lazio manager. However, they were rebuffed in their attempts as Lazio’s hierarchy want to give Sarri more time to turn the fortunes around.
Whilst Lazio are in a reasonably poor run of form, they will certainly be dangerous. Players like Ciro Immobile will push the Italians into the bracket of favourites.
Sarri had success with Napoli before earning the Stamford Bridge job, which saw him pick up the Europa League. The former bank manager worked his way through the ranks in football management and he will relish the chance to manage in one of football’s most iconic stadia.
Celtic won the two meetings against Lazio in 2019 as Neil Lennon’s side recorded two 2-1 victories. Brendan Rodgers will be keen to rack up three points and make a dent in the competition.
