NEIL LENNON has said that he is already looking ahead to the January transfer window to recruit and strengthen his ailing squad. The Irishman survived the Celtic Park sack this week after exiting the Europa League and League cup as well as falling 11 points behind Rangers. However, Lennon is looking to bring some players in to keep the 10IAR dream alive.
The manager told the media conference yesterday ahead of today’s game versus AC Milan at the San Siro that the recruitment team were working away behind the scenes in order to strengthen key areas in the squad.
“We have identified areas where we want to add and we are working away in the background on that.
“Hopefully we will get a bit of business done in January that will freshen things up and hopefully add a bit of quality to the squad.”
Celtic could use with another wide player and another goalkeeper to come in. No disrespect to Vasilis Barkas, he is yet to really settle but the Scottish Champions need a goalkeeper that can inspire confidence in the defenders in front of him. Barkas has a run of fixtures in which he can impress but should the defensive frailties continue then the club should be attempting to beg Fraser Forster to consider a return.
The fixture run until January 1 is full of winnable fixtures with the game the following day at Ibrox against Rangers. The game is a must-win for Celtic and Lennon will want to be in the best possible shape for this match, meaning that they will need to get deals down so that players that do come in have a chance of playing in the fixture.
A recruitment drive would show misfiring first team players that they are not irreplaceable and that the club is more than individuals. Lennon has been given time and he needs to use all the tools at his disposal to bring about 10IAR.
