Neil Lennon is hoping to sign ‘one or two’ new players ahead of the January transfer window closing next week. The Irishman spoke after Celtic beat Hamilton in a competent if not boring evening under the lights at Paradise.

Speaking after the game, as reported by the Sun, Lennon said he would speak to Peter Lawwell about whether the club can spend any money in the window as the pandemic has put restraints on the club’s finances – especially given the outlay in the summer.

“We may look at the right-back and central defensive positions.

“I will speak to Peter Lawwell. Will we spend? We’ll see. We haven’t been immune to this pandemic.

“There might be options in the next couple of days that we don’t expect.

“But Christopher Jullien is out long term and Jeremie has gone, so we are looking at those areas.”

Jeremie Frimpong left the club to join Bayer Leverkusen for £11.5m but the money may well be used in the summer as the club plan a reshuffle. James McCarthy, Ben Pearson and Liam Shaw have all been discussed in terms of pre-contracts but the closest thing that the club have in terms of a signing prospect is Preston’s Ben Davies.

Supporters are still awaiting the outcome of the January review in which the club were to review the performance of the management. However, as  it continues to drag on, it would appear that he looks set to stay in the role to the end the season or at least, if 10IAR is mathematically impossible.
