Let’s stop romanticising Mikey Johnston, simply wish him well at West Brom

Let’s stop romanticising MJ…

It’s good to see Mikey Johnston hit the ground running at West Brom. It’s now two goals in as many games for the wide man, and he seems to have won more than a few admirers down at the Midlands club.

Oddly enough, he seems to have found a few admirers at his parent club, a place where it would an understatement to say he wasn’t the most popular. That place is of course Celtic. Mikey has been with us for a number of years now, and while he possess great talent, his lack of consistency, his physicality and his injury record has meant he has little to no chance of a future at the club.

Mikey at 24 years old isn’t a prospect anymore, he’s had numerous chances and unfortunately he won’t make the grade at the club. That’s not being disrespectful to Mikey, it’s just the way it is. He seems a decent lad, and I hope he goes on to make a good career for himself, but that won’t be at Celtic.

Bizarrely some of the same fans who would have driven him south themselves to get shot of him, are now pining for him after his blistering start to life at West Brom. We reported on his wonderful goal he scored last night at Plymouth and the West Brom fans are certainly raving about him.

But let’s stop romanticising Mikey, yes it’s good to see him doing well, but he’s not going to make the grade at Celtic but can have a good career elsewhere, perhaps at West Brom and of course for the Republic of Ireland.

  1. Scored 2 in his last 3 – he drew a blank and was subbed after 65m his 2nd start…he made a couple of sub appearances before his full debut too.

Good luck to the lad, like so many deemed not good enough for Celtic they seem to do well outside of Scotland, read into that what you may…has rodgers been sacked yet!? 🐸
